Effective Portable Lighting

A light tower is a great way to provide powerful and portable lighting, which can be used for many different applications within a wide variety of industries. This type of lighting is very commonly seen in use at roadsides and on motorways when maintenance work is necessary, and a light tower can be moved easily wherever it is needed. Night work can be difficult and dangerous if visibility is poor, so having a good supply of powerful and consistent lighting is essential to ensure that site health and safety standards are met.

A light tower can be a the only solution for working outside at night where a large area needs to be illuminated quickly and efficiently. They are available in both static and mobile models, giving greater choice for potential users. A static model would be perfect for long running construction projects for example, and better quality professional light tower models will have tilting lights to enable a more accurate application of light where it is needed. Most towers will feature a group of powerful lights, around four on average, which is the ideal way to ensure that a wider area will be well illuminated.

A mobile light tower would be a great investment for companies that regularly work in different locations, such as event companies, and who often have to complete work at night. Events companies may find a mobile lighting tower particularly useful for setting up outdoor areas, marquees and other venues quickly overnight, which is often the only way to meet an event schedule. Whereas static lighting models will be lifted into position ready for use their mobile equivalent will normally be towed into position using the tow bar provided as part of the road going trailer.

Safety is of paramount importance and it is normal that both types have extending telescopic outriggers which extend to increase stability when the lighting mast is raised. Whether mobile or static, towers should be compact to transport when packed away, and the lights themselves retracted to a position protecting them from damage whilst being transported.

Lighting towers should also be easy to use, and most will have a user friendly automated hydraulic mast to erect and lower the light heads. Most good models should also have a fully rotating mast, to allow more precise direction and placement of the lights, which might include tilting the individual lights (if this option is available) in the direction that they are needed.

It is important to consider safety when choosing a lighting system, and features such as alarms and brakes should all be researched and considered. Health and safety is very important for commercial sites, and well thought out equipment with good safety features can make risk assessments and planning easy and efficient. High quality lighting with user friendly features and an easy to use yet effective safety system can make any project run more efficiently. Companies that regularly conduct work at night in the dark can consider tower lighting to be an essential investment.
